Vic: Drug advice for parents via 24 hour hotline

Parents of children and other family members affected by drugs will be able to get
advice through a 24-hour telephone hotline to begin early next year.

Victorian Premier STEVE BRACKS announced the statewide hotline as part of the government's
plan to support families dealing with the drug problem.

He says people dependent on drugs have the best chances of rehabilitation if they have
the support of their families.

Up to 100 parents who have first-hand experience of drug problems in their families
will be trained to staff the hotline, along with professional drug counsellors.

Mr BRACKS unveiled a $1.2 million package of family counselling and parent-support
programs, including $192,000 for the family drug information and support hotline.
