Fed: Joyce welcomes strengthening of biodiesel industry

Nationals senator BARNABY JOYCE .. says he's encouraged by reports senior government
ministers are trying to fast-track Australia's biodiesel industry.

Senator JOYCE has constantly pushed the importance of biodiesel or biofuels industry
.. to help bring down the price of petrol.

He wants mandated levels of ethanol in petrol .. a move opposed by Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD.

The Australian newspaper says senior ministers met yesterday and decided to make ethanol-blended
fuel more widely available.





Ethanol is extracted from sugar cane and blended with petrol.

The resulting fuel is up to 4 cents cheaper .. because of a government subsidy which
is being phased out.
