Y2K no problem for pacemakers
Your patients with pacemakers need not worry about malfunctions related to Year 2000 computer programming problems, medical device makers say. They say their products will keep functioning normally after Dec. 31, 1999, contrary to scary rumors that some patients are reporting. The false rumor is that the circuitry in pacemakers and other medical devices is date-sensitive and will stop working properly when the year 2000 arrives - a problem that does in fact confront some computer-controlled products.
