SpectorSoft Corp., a company focused on computer, mobile, and Internet monitoring and analysis, has introduced viziSafe, a free and for-fee product that provides IT insurance by capturing, recording and analyzing employees' computer and Internet activity.
The company said that viziSafe addresses a common IT burden--allowing identification of unexpected, unsanctioned or noncompliant computer and Internet activity--through a free product that can be unlocked to provide data and functionality that is important, but often unavailable, after an incident occurs.
According to a release, IT administrators, human resources and operations personnel commonly believe there is unsanctioned or unexpected computer activity happening across their organizations, or they might be asked to analyze data regarding previous computer or network use. By installing viziSafe as an "early warning system," IT departments are no longer caught off guard. viziSafe is "freemium" software, meaning users in free mode receive ongoing evaluation of computer activity, and a full license for a premium version can be purchased at any point to retrieve archived information and for an ongoing evaluation of computer use.
In the freemium version, viziSafe customers can monitor and analyze activity on one machine or they can select a more limited scope of data capture and viewing for up to 1,000 users. Through a graphical interface, IT administrators review trends and potential issues around user and user group e-mail use, Internet use, application use, and workflow. At the first sign of unanticipated, or troublesome activity, admins can purchase licenses for the premium version of viziSafe, giving them complete details on the 14 days of data stored in their on-site "safe," and full-function monitoring, capture and analysis of the associated users going forward.
"There are a number of situations where having knowledge of specific computer or network activity would help my job, but no one reason currently justifies me seeking a full enterprise monitoring solution," said Kevin Hewitt, IT manager at Stevens Aviation. "viziSafe provides peace of mind, giving me a historical and real-time view into user activity, at no cost. And, if I see unexpected or suspicious activity, I can easily pay for the full-access version, giving me full details of the forensic data and full program functionality going forward."
Without viziSafe, the Company noted that IT personnel face a daunting task when asked to investigate incidents related to improper computer and Internet use -- such as data theft or activity that puts a company out of compliance with regulations. They dig through log files, individual application audit trails, and manually stitch together complex data flows. viziSafe streamlines this task and provides ongoing intelligence as to whether questionable activity is occurring.
viziSafe is based on fundamental SpectorSoft Internet monitoring technology used by more than 50,000 businesses, government organizations, schools and law enforcement agencies -- not to mention a half-million consumers.
