More than 30,000 Congolese refugees have fled to neighboring Uganda since August, the United Nations said Monday, as delegates gathered for U.N.-brokered talks to stem the violence in eastern Congo.
The refugees have been streaming in since rebels launched an offensive after years of low-level fighting in eastern Congo, said Roberta Russo, a spokeswoman for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees in Uganda.
"Health, water and sanitation remain a major challenge in the camps," Russo said.
